The Kinesio Taping technique was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan more than 25 years ago. Recently it has become a very popular treatment method for those in the sporting industry, as seen in the 2012 Olympic Games. The tape is designed to resemble the thickness and elasticity of human skin as closely as possibly which allows it to be worn without binding, constricting or restricting range of movement – perfect for athletic performance!
In theory, when applied professionally and accurately, kinesiology tape can work in number of ways to provide pain relief, enhance athletic performance, reduce inflammation, assist in increasing range of movement and provide structural support.
Kineso Tape is made from a very thin, porous, 100% cotton fabric. It has a medical grade heat-activated adhesive. It is non-medicated and latex free - making it very skin friendly.
Kinesio Tape is designed to be worn for multiple days (3 to 5). An hour after application it will withstand athletic activity and showering without coming off.
There are no physical product differences between the coloured tapes. It's just a variety of choice.
Although mainly seen in the sporting industry Kinesio Tape can benefit people of all ages with muscle problems. For example, it can be used pregnant women who has pelvic girdle pain or on the average person to relieve muscle strain or acute injury causing inflammation and discomfort.
The word 'Kineso' comes from the science of Kinesiology. The taping method and tape follow Kinesiology theory; the treatment allows the body and muscles to move whilst assisting rehabilitation.
